Just been to a Gomez concert with [profile] gayadi. It was fucking awesome.

Bed now.

Posting from Dreamwidth; so I'm crossing fingers and toes (and hopefully posts).

Anyway, not last weekend but the weekend before that I went to the Elf Fantasy Fair with my daughter and her friend on a Sunday. This is a yearly event that takes place in a park around a beautiful castle, so that really adds to the atmosphere. Lots of people come dressed up, there are all kinds of live action plays, dances, merchandise of course, writers signing books, little medieval villages etc. It's absolutely lovely, and it's fun just to walk around and watch everything and everybody.

Some more inside, including meeting James Marsters and some pics from the fair )

Oh hey, and you know what's cool? When I edit an entry at Dreamwidth the Livejournal entry gets edited too!!

rodneyscat: (Default)
I'm currently importing my livejournal entries and comments to my Dreamwidth account. Once I'm done I'll test how the crossposting from there works and how I'm supposed to read my flist and such. Mostly I want to see how moving there will work while also keeping in touch with Livejournal.

Anyway, I've got 5 invite codes, so if you're looking for one leave a comment with your email address (comments are screened) and I'll send one.

My country is in shock over something that in the grand scheme of things isn't that big a deal, but it is to most of us, including me. This post is getting longer and longer though every time I edit it, so I'll put this behind a cut now. )

From David Hewlett's Twitter:

My FRIENDS don't drop by the house unannounced SO NOT the thing for fans to do! Yikes!

*is speechless*

rodneyscat: (guust slaap)
Hi. Came home late. Have to be up early tomorrow. Why can't I read fics, write feedback and rec for a living?

*looks at memories longingly*

Ah well, one more day and it's weekend :D

[edit] The bookstore where I used to work called today asking if I could work for them this Sunday, and I said no. I'm so proud of myself!!

rodneyscat: (merlin dreamy)
I've got a whole bunch of fics waiting to be read, write feedback for and rec, but this can't wait because this vid just took my breath away.

'Closing in' by [livejournal.com profile] kinseymill (AU, Arthur/Merlin)

She took scenes from different movies/series that Bradley James has been in (plus some RL footage of the boys at a premiere I think), picked just the right scenes and blended them all together in such a clever way that she's telling a whole new story, of Arthur living now and remembering a time in an earlier life when he and Merlin were together. She uses the fact that Bradley has worked with several people from Merlin in earlier projects. I love the dreamlike quality of the vid and the music of Imogen Heap fits in beautifully.

rodneyscat: (due south curiouser)
I feel like watching Due South tonight. Which episode should I pick? And why?

p.s. I really want to watch something with Callum...

rodneyscat: (slade noize)
This summer my daughter and I will attend a three day festival, Lowlands. We bought tickets when not much was known by way of a line up, but it's the most laid back, easy going, relaxed festivals I've ever been to that doesn't have a lot of Big Names, but focuses on wide variety (and not just music but also theater, dance, movies, literature and even political debate) so it's going to be awesome either way. Names are trickling in and yesterday I casually announced that Fall Out Boy is going to be there to which my daughter practically started doing back-flips.

Erm, I guess I'll have to check them out?

So far I'm most enthusiastic about Arctic Monkeys and Kasabian being there :D

For those interested in that sort of thing, I uploaded a clip from the movie 'Sommersturm' to YouTube. It's in German, but this clip speaks for itself really and there isn't much talking in it anyway.

Summary of the movie: )

This particular clip starts with Tobi alone at the lake after he's been rejected by Achim. The gay team arrives for a swim and when Tobi wants to leave they invite him to stay which he does. They have a fun time together, swimming, competing, laughing and lying in the sun. It's late in the afternoon when Tobi wakes up after apparently falling asleep. He has a sunburn, the whole team has left except for one guy who'd clearly had his eye on Tobi. One thing leads to another and basically Tobi has his first experience with a guy.

To avoid disappointment: this is not a porn, I'd rate it PG-13 but I wouldn't watch it at work either. I would have liked a little 'afterglow' but I'm afraid the scene ends like this in the movie, so there's nothing I can do about that.

Just started this journal here, thanks to the invite I got from green_grrl. Dreamwidth is the first alternative to LiveJournal that I feel good about. I'll have a look around if I see any familiar names, but I don't expect to do anything structural and organized like use any of the handy tools that have been pointed out here and there until the weekend.

See you around :D
rodneyscat: (david smiling)
So David Hewlett is going to guest on 'The Closer' as agent Moore (since SGA 'Vegas' I'm very excited about seeing David in a suit. Very excited. I'm never excited about suits. When the hell did that happen?! Oh right, since David wore one in 'Vegas'...) Never heard of the series. Is it any good? I just checked and saw Kyra Sedgwick is in it. I like her :D

rodneyscat: (clutch recs)
As promised, my brand spanking new rec archive is live. I've stuck in there all the recs I've posted in this journal since I deleted my rec site & journal and added a whole lot of recs from that site. There's a whole period missing in which I read a lot but didn't rec. That's why there aren't a lot of SG-1 recs for example and no Due South at all.

Everything that's on those 5 pages I would read and watch again right now (and have been doing so for the past months, that's part of why it took me so bloody long to get these pages done in the first place...). Some fandoms are missing because I don't read them anymore. I've got a page reserved for lotr and lotrips though, because I wouldn't be surprised if I'd feel the need for one at some point. Just not yet.

So now I've got SGA, SG-1, Merlin, a page with several fandoms and a page with vids.

If there's anything that's not clear, not working, incomplete, weird or unfair about these pages, please let me know and I'll see what I can do.

I have a stinking cold with all the disgusting TMI that comes with it, a pounding head, ringing ears, a sore throat and a bark that kept me awake all night, which is highly inconvenient because today is the second day we're moving stuff back into the stationary/book store that I work in.

Blergh...

rodneyscat: (merlin and arthur)
Today I gobbled up [livejournal.com profile] srin's Merlin fics. They're delicious and nutritious; not too sweet, with a healthy dash of humor, some very moving moments that had me blink away tears, some thinky thoughts and sexy scenes ranging from butterflies-in-stomach cute to sizzling hot.

'Underdeveloped instinct' (3,400 words, Arthur/Merlin, PG)
In which Arthur gets very upset about the way in which Merlin is way too careless in risking his life for him, it takes them both a while to figure out why this is making him so angry and then they proceed to get drunk and comfortable with each other.

'On swefnum, incuthra eorthan' (1,300 words, Gwen/Morgana, PG)
Morgana's visions are confusing, disturbing, often upsetting and it never ends well for her and hardly ever for Gwen, no matter what happens to the others. Some of the visions and her ponderings on what's real and what is not made me snicker. Others were a punch in the gut and made me wish desperately for a more deserving ending than it usually goes in the Arthurian legends for these two women.

'The future, and what’s in between' (4,300 words, Arthur/Merlin, PG-13)
An unexpected encounter makes it that Merlin starts fearing the future so much that he doesn't know what to do with himself anymore. Arthur talks him into seeing the bright side again and figures out a way to make Merlin unwind.

'Knowing and nobility' (6,800 words, Arthur/Merlin, PG-13)
Her characterizations of Arthur and Merlin both are exactly the way I love them most, with Arthur so aware of his responsibilities and Merlin so devoted to the man but unimpressed by his station. And it's got giggles and moaning in bed, which (as some of you may have noticed *shifty eyes*) is one of my favorite things ever.

'Force of nature' (3,600 words, Arthur/Merlin, NC-17)
Merlin’s a magical creature who goes into heat, and subsequently has a great deal of sex with Arthur. Well, that pretty much sums it up. I want to add though that I love that she manages to make it all consensual. Also, it's freaking hot *writhes*

'Mcgyffen' (5,400 words, Arthur/Merlin, PG)
This was the fic that made me search for more by the same author: Cracktastic, moving, fun and sweet. It's got it all.

rodneyscat: (merlin dreamy)
Quick drive-by update on this post: Merlin is being broadcast in The Netherlands, and it started last week... Today is the second episode!

It's being broadcast on a public channel (Nederland 3, 19.40 o'clock) by the KRO.

[edit 1] And while we're on the subject, for those interested in how our public broadcasting system works, this is quite accurate and it includes a line on the KRO specifically.

[edit 2] Oh, and for one reason or another they've renamed it 'The adventures of Merlin'. I don't mean the Dutch translation, no, just like that, in English. How does that make any sense?!

REG1430 made an awesome vid of the SGA episode 'Vegas'. She took all the good scenes and left out the cheesy ones, starts quietly with John and Rodney talking and lets the music she picked seep in slowly when the truth is dawning on John. From there the music and the lyrics combined with the editing swept me away and left me with that familiar 'oh John...' feeling. It hurts so good. *shivery sigh*

You can find the clip here on YouTube and she kindly added a downloadable version in the info (just click 'more').
