I'm a couple of episodes into the fourth season of Doctor Who now, so I was a bit surprised when in the Fandom Superlatives competition an episode in the third season was getting a boatload of votes for having the best monster, because I didn't remember any weeping angels. I checked and noticed I'd accidentally skipped that one. So I watched it tonight with mr. RC.

Cut for spoilers. )

Don't like (as in; turns me off a story quicker than you can say 'But that's true love!')

* When Morgana and/or Gwen are jealous, evil bitches who want to keep Arthur and Merlin apart.

* When Arthur is not just an arrogant prat, but a complete asshole, sometimes even intentionally cruel.

* When Merlin allows Arthur to treat him badly without any kind of protest. When he bows his head and just takes it, even comes crawling back for more.

* Either one or both of them suffering horribly for unthinkable periods of time.

Like (as in; I have a specific weakness for)

* When Gwen and Merlin get together, find out they love each other to bits but not like that, split up and then support each other through the whole process of Merlin getting together with Arthur and Gwen getting together with Morgana.

* When Merlin can't let it rest when he and Arthur disagree about something. No matter how exasperated Arthur gets with him, he keeps bringing it up.

* When Arthur wants to do the right and just thing. When he's thoughtful and aware of his responsibilities.

* When Arthur and Merlin are passionate about each other; when they fight hard and love hard. When they grab, push and shove because they're angry or full of lust.

For those who know how much I've been freaking out about not knowing who wrote this: turns out it was [livejournal.com profile] srin/[livejournal.com profile] mad_poetics. She reposted it here.

So yeah, turns out I already did know and love her fics :D

And today is such a good day to be a Merlin fan ♥

[livejournal.com profile] kinseymill pointed out that there are two very clear vids of the London Expo Merlin panel at their YouTube channel over here and here (the first few seconds of the second vid may look a little worn due to my repeated viewing; omg Colin's wriggly beaming!!)

And then there are the utterly delightful reports and pics from the German Merlin fans [livejournal.com profile] euraylie, [livejournal.com profile] luisadeza, [livejournal.com profile] ronsoftie, [livejournal.com profile] gwy and [livejournal.com profile] wiccaqueen who went to Pierrefonds and ended up getting quite close to where the shooting of Merlin is actually taking place now, see quite some of the cast and managed to restrain themselves and be the kind of fans any actor/actress can hope for.
Reports over here, here, here and here.

Desktop meme from [livejournal.com profile] vensre

RULES:
- Anyone who looks at this meme has to post their own desktop in their LiveJournal.
- Explain in a few sentences why you’re using that wallpaper.
- Don’t change your wallpaper before doing this. The point is to see what you had up!

So yeah, I'll show you mine :D )

This wallpaper is made by [livejournal.com profile] jhava. I've had it for quite a while now (I just checked: 10 months) and I still don't feel the need to change it because this is indeed my Atlantis :D

So, what's more on my desktop:

At the top right there's the rain-radar-map so I'll know what to expect whenever I need to go outside and the analogue clock because with digital I still have to count in my head *bows head in shame*

At the top left are shortcuts to my computer and my folders (yep, josé is my name).

At the top left to right are thirteen clips I downloaded from [livejournal.com profile] katzgalore, because she filmed the London Expo Merlin panel from the direction where I was sitting, so it's almost like being there again :D

To the left top to bottom are my current favorite fanvids. I always have shortcuts to fanvids on my desktop and they're always the kind that make me happy ♥

At the bottom you can see I had photoshop and [livejournal.com profile] vensre's post open while making the screencap.

Now show me yours :D

I just bought the Britney Spears song 'Circus' off iTunes.

The things that fandom makes me do. Really...

I forgot to post my latest entries, with reports of my Merlin fandom weekend, by way of Dreamwidth crossposting to LJ and just put them on LJ directly, d'oh...

Here are the links:

Report for the London Expo.
Report for the Soccer Six.
rodneyscat: (merlin dreamy)
So. The plan was to go camping with my family-in-law next weekend. Now I love them dearly, but we already had our yearly big family gathering for the weekend following that one, and two family weekends in a row was a bit much imho.

Then it turned out that Bradley James was joining Soccer Six, so it was a shame I was going to miss that.

Then it turned out that Colin Morgan was going to be at the London Expo (and Bradley, Angel and Katie) and frankly... some wailing may have occurred *shifty eyes*.

Today I got an email from my sister-in-law; the weather forecast didn't look so well, so they wanted to skip the camping and just leave it at the usual weekend. Bye. Then an email from my brother-in-law came saying they agreed. See you in two weeks.

I may have freaked. Just a little. I may have emailed [personal profile] loreley_se to virtually cry on her shoulder. Some emails back and forth later she's arranged tickets for me to both events and I've ordered plane-tickets.

I'm going to London next Friday...

*reels*

Posting from Dreamwidth; so I'm crossing fingers and toes (and hopefully posts).

Anyway, not last weekend but the weekend before that I went to the Elf Fantasy Fair with my daughter and her friend on a Sunday. This is a yearly event that takes place in a park around a beautiful castle, so that really adds to the atmosphere. Lots of people come dressed up, there are all kinds of live action plays, dances, merchandise of course, writers signing books, little medieval villages etc. It's absolutely lovely, and it's fun just to walk around and watch everything and everybody.

Some more inside, including meeting James Marsters and some pics from the fair )

Oh hey, and you know what's cool? When I edit an entry at Dreamwidth the Livejournal entry gets edited too!!

(What's this meme?)

In 1986 I bought second-hand paperbacks of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings, after my sister had been raving about them for years. During my holiday I read them and got drawn into that world. My favorite characters were Sam and Eowyn, both of whom I identified with. Shortly after, I bought brand new beautifully bound versions of the books, and an equally beautifully bound second-hand version of The Silmarillion, although it took me until 2002 to actually read that one.

In spring 2001 I saw the first trailer for the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

And from here on I'll cut for length and pics. )

"Miss the golden days of the Lord of the Rings fandom? Get homesick for Middle-Earth?

Then this is for you!

You don't need to sign up anywhere to participate. But if you see this on your friends-page and like the idea, please post this text to your LJ to spread the word.

How to participate:

1. Pick a day of the week (or more than one) on which you resolve to always post something LotR-related in March, and let your friends-list know.

2. Go back and read your favourite chapters from the book, or watch the movies again. Let the beauty of LotR inspire you. And then, share the love.

3. Start your subject line with (B2MEM) when you post, and use a "b2mem" tag. This'll make it easy to spot your B2MEM-entries.

No matter if you just ramble about your undying love for LotR, picspam us, post wallpapers, icons, or write fan fic / create fan art, the plan is to get as many LotR-related entries on our friends-pages as possible throughout March.

Sounds good? We've been there, let's go back again!"

I absolutely love that idea! So here's what I'm going to do:

1. I pick Wednesday. So every Wednesday in March I'll make a B2MEM post.

2. I won't have time until 23st of March to actually read the books (I read books, never parts of books, I'm obsessive compulsive like that. No really...), or watch the movies, but I will go check my collection fics and pics and clips.

3. I'll make posts marked as mentioned, with samples of everything that makes me look back on that period with specific warmth and fondness; rps and fps fics, caps from the movies, pics from the cast, vids from interviews etc.

I'm really looking forward to this :D

rodneyscat: (Default)
I just finished The West Wing season 1, episode 14. Now there's a series that has me thinking, laughing and crying every damn episode. And so many characters to love! Ok, if someone were twisting my arm I'd say that C.J. is my favorite character. Not a slash pairing in sight as far as I'm concerned, but C.J. and Danny are so damn cute!

Right, I'm home alone. I'm going to watch another episode or two ♥

rodneyscat: (colin 2)
I was right in the middle of commenting and replying when the mail arrived and this dropped on my doormat...

*logs off and goes to watch Colin's video diary*

I feel like getting my recs organized, and there are a couple of things I already know I want:

1) I'll keep on making these rec posts the way I have been for quite some time now, I just want to have a place where I can have them archived all together and update that every few months.
2) I've shifted from mainly rps back in my lotrips days, to mainly fps now. I'll keep on reccing rps every now and then, but I won't archive those recs. That doesn't make sense, I know, but there you go. Ok, that went out the window right about the time Merlin lured me into rps again, and the more I'm in it, the less principles I've got.
3) There are a couple of things I'm not quite sure about, and that's where you come in. Hence this poll.

If you in some way, shape or form use my recs, then I have the following questions (and these are check buttons on purpose):

[Poll #1325848]

Merlin recs

Now that's just typical isn't it... I finally get around to sit down and start a rec post, when I find out part 4 of a series I'm reccing has been posted.

After much consideration I decided to be weak, post this entry as far as I got and curl up on the couch with said chapter.

*glee*

Some RPS recs, one FPS rec and one art rec )

Also, just about everything about SGA pisses me the fuck off lately. I've really been trying to be a loyal fan here. Really. But the fucking arrogance of the writers and producers has me literally crying with rage. Martin Gero 'answering' the questions in Joe Mallozzi's blog today is an outrage.

I am so pissed off. Furious is a better word. Or maybe there are no words.

And frankly, I could be completely wrong here, but I feel like David Hewlett doesn't know what the fuck he's supposed to do with the material he's been given in some of the latest episodes.

I used to be so in love with Rodney McKay. He's a joke lately.

And that's not a spoiler, it's a warning.

Oh, and feel free to disagree with me, but don't tell me I'm wrong or a bad fan, because I will hit you.

rodneyscat: (merlin and arthur)
Oh dear god, I've got it so bad...

Also, does someone, anyone have the song 'Jesse' by Ivri Lider for me? It can't be purchased on iTunes!

[livejournal.com profile] llanowar1977 uploaded it! If you're interested, you can find the link in the comments :D

The Big Bang Theory

A Q&A with Jim Parsons who plays Sheldon in The Big Bang Theory. I would have liked the answers to be written down with the questions, because it got a little too much to watch all the clips, but it's good fun comparing Jim to Sheldon for a couple of them.

SGA

[livejournal.com profile] melloniel is making pic spams of Rodney and John and their Epic Space Love. They are more than just pic spams. She's going through each season, episode by episode, capturing every John/Rodney moment, and making these little collages, often with added quotes. It's all heartwarming and very pleasing to the eye.

Do have a look around! Just start with the first post. There's a link to the next post at the bottom and this way you can click your way through the five posts she has up so far.

Star Wars

The latest SFX collectors item is a George Lucas special. I'm having hours of fun reading the magazine front to back. Especially the minute-by-minute DVD commentaries of all six Star Wars movies, complete with drinking game and little symbols for several key moments like bloopers, trivia, guest stars and pop culture references. A lot of it isn't news, but the us-geeks-feeling is strong in this one, so that more than makes up for it.

I may have snorted some coffee up my nose when I read this on the bus from work back home today:

For "Revenge of the Sith":

02:04:53 Fans of Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon slash are heartened to hear from Yoda that the late Jedi Master has discovered immortality. "How to commune with him, I will teach you," says Yoda.

I especially love how they don't feel the need to explain 'slash' here. Apparently it's presumed common knowledge.

SG-1

From this post in Joe Mallozzi's blog:

Question: ...anyway i was watching some oldies…ahh season 1 and i started wondering when did you guys realise that when exiting the stargate having to make the guys all frozen over would be too much…”

Answer: The day a faux frost-covered Richard Dean Anderson stumbled out of the gate and declared “This is going to get real old, real fast.”

SGA

[livejournal.com profile] wraithfodder has some lovely reports with pics and vids up in her journal of the Cherry Hill Stargate Convention. I particularly loved the one of Jason Momoa, in which he tells of how he shocked David Hewlett (and amused Joe Flanigan to no end) by mooning David from Joe's car, and how he's the gay guy to Joe's straight guy. Those who are going to Chevron 7.2 should be in for a treat.

* A couple of fic recs:

'Aspects of Divinity (the world is my oyster)' by [livejournal.com profile] rinsbane (NC-17, Rodney/John, AU)

This fic combines a couple of things I'm particularly fond of in Rodney/John fics: They hook up way before Antarctica, when they're just 18 and despite their differences they bond over so much. There's sensitive, melancholic, protective John, with a fondness for ferris wheels, and there's too intelligent for his age, grown up too quickly Rodney, who needs to be taught how to have fun. They are so meant to be together.

'Not quite Benjamin Braddock' by [livejournal.com profile] velocitygrass (PG, John/Rodney, Rodney/Jennifer)

Did I mention they are meant to be? That kind of gives the outcome away, but avid McSheppers wouldn't read it otherwise, and avid McKellers would be disappointed if they did, so it's best to know up front imho. It's one of [livejournal.com profile] velocitygrass's 'pining John and oblivious Rodney with a hopeful ending' fics that she does so well.

Merlin

[livejournal.com profile] mistful has written a hilarious yet weirdly accurate spoof on the series so far.

* Fic rec:

'Who's counting anyway' by [livejournal.com profile] phantomjam (NC-17, Merlin/Arthur)

There's mutual flirting and teasing until they get to a point where it's either act, explode or leave off altogether. Seeing as the fic is rated NC-17 it's clear where this is going, and I must say it includes a scene that fits in nicely with what I mentioned here.

Miscellaneous

* Vidders on vidding.

[livejournal.com profile] laurashapiro & [livejournal.com profile] cesperanza have made a set of short documentaries about vidding according to vidders. I loved watching those geeky vidders, some of whom have made vids that I treasure, talk about why they do what they do. A short introduction with the link over here.

* Ben and Josh slash themselves.

And then one of the comments in this post at [livejournal.com profile] face_of_joe reminded me of something [livejournal.com profile] baylorsr pointed out three years ago: there's an Easter Egg on the region 1 version of the extended dvd of Pearl Harbor, that has a scene of Ben Affleck and Josh Hartnett re-enacting the animal cracker scene from Armagaddon. The entry is now locked, but she was kind enough to send me the caps she'd made back then. You can see them here (click 'slideshow' at the top right corner, then 'fast' at the bottom left corner and watch the cuteness).

rodneyscat: (john in atlantis)
I indulged in a therapeutic session with my crappy Windows Movie Maker, which in combination with my crappy movie making skillz resulted in this: not a fanvid, but a fan... uhm... compilation?

It's not complete, and I'm not claiming to be. It does have all the moments that I personally wanted/needed to be in there. Note that even the info contains spoilers, so don't click if you're not up to date with SGA and want to remain spoiler free.

Also, yep, it ends where it ends, because it broke my heart and I hated and loved the way John says that.

Some more rambling, but cut because of the spoilers. )
