When has this picture been taken? Are there more pics in this shoot? Why is he dirty like that? Why isn't he dirty like that more often? What? Where? How? Who?

Right after seeing FotR I overcame my internet phobia especially so I could get more info on that movie, everything about it and especially Elijah. I just lurked and watched and searched. This pic was the first one that made me contact someone. This was lilithlotr, whose email address I'd seen on her site (a site I visited for the gorgeous mag scans). Same Lilith commented (http://www.livejournal.com/users/dutch_eowyn/317096.html?thread=3232168#t3232168) again!

Back then I got her answer wrong... God, I was so godawful clueless about just about everything! I thought the signature at the bottom of her reply was part of the answer... *slumps*

It's from a Premiere shoot he did a couple of years ago, isn't it? It looks cool when you flip it over. ;) I've just always assumed they did it like this because they thought it was kind of arty. Who knows where photographers, editors and art directors get their ideas from ? I mean, why let him pose with a stuffed bird? Why make him sit barefoot in the dirt in front of a bunch of reed? I guess they think it looks cool (and it does!), and with this one the dirt brings out his eyes spectacularly.

Yep, it's from Premiere. I never really realized it's probably just some thing they did for the shoot. I sort of assumed the pics were taken on set or something, and he was looking like this when they were taking pictures.

The dirt doesn't just bring out his eyes, but also his teeth by the way!

I've got the Premiere magazine that picture first appeared in. It was that article, and the pictures that went with it, that first interested me in Elijah, other than as the actor who played Frodo. There was one of the see through shirt pictures in the magazine too.

I was an Elijah fan before LotR, but it was LotR that made me go looking for pics on the internet and made me hunt foreign mags. I'm late with that, so I missed out on some of the good stuff from the start, because the Dutch mags generally just rehash existing interviews and use old photoshoots where it comes to actors like Elijah.

The first scan of this pic I found on the internet was from a Russian mag by the way! Seems like not only Dutch mags have the rehashing down...

It's from the September 2001 Premiere magazine, one of the first big stories in the USA in a general newsstand rag. I think I still have it somewhere, although Elwood was never a priority for me--I wanted LotR info and if it came with pictures of some goofy-looking kid, then fine. Heh.

Frankly, that photo ooks me out. ;D

Oh man, there was hardly anything to be found over here! I mean, Elijah already was a priority for me back then, and still I couldn't find anything even when I was looking for it!

The picture first looked like something for CU to me, but when it was determined (lilithlotr told me) that it wasn't for the movie, I didn't know what to think anymore!

It seems like it was just to make an 'interesting' photoshoot. Hm.

I prefer to think he was caught in the act of fooling around with his fellow hobbit actors. Never mind that it's not true...

Yeah! And you know what? I've seen a scan of that before (can't bloody find it now of course) but it never occured to me that it could be from the same shoot! God, it's so obvious really! I can't believe I missed it so far!

That pic really takes me back to when my Lij/LOTR obsession first started. I didn't have a home pc then and had to keep sneaking onto the internet at work in my frenzy to find out as much as I could about Lij. I came across that pic and immediately assumed it was a scene from ROTK - you can't see his hair too clearly so I didn't realise he wasn't in the wig. I thought it was the CU scene and he was stripped and spread out ready for some 'questioning' by the orcs! It was a long time before I found out it was a photoshoot for 'Premiere'. I was quite disappointed. Why they wanted him to be rolling around in the dirt I have no idea, but these photographers do have strange ideas sometimes - I'm thinking of the pic where he's all wrapped up in cling film, and the L'huomo Vogue pic where his face is almost hidden by a scarf, to name a couple.

And that was the first article I read about Elijah that attracted me to him as a person making me think "he's not just an ACTOR". You know? Some people are so talented, but there's nothing interesting there about them. I was very impressed with Elijah as an individual after reading this article and that's what started all THIS for me. Well...FOTR was what started it, but still...

And I remember clutching around on the internet, being clueless about how those clips were supposed to work, how to save pics to my harddisc so I could perv over them off line, because I still was on dial-up, stuff like that. Oh man...

This pic used to freak me out -- not sure why. Now, when I look at it, all I can think is how much fun it would be to A) apply all that fake dirt, and B) wash it off again with my tongue.

Back when I thought it was for something in the movie, the pic freaked me out. When I found out it wasn't I thought it damn sexy. Especially when thinking up ways of how he got this way, which of course involved fellow hobbits.

Photographers make me insane . . . they have an opportunity to take pictures of this perfect-example-of-manstuff and all they can think of is stuff like THIS?! Oh, just once if I were given the chance, I would try to take the sort of pictures we really want to see! (No, not naked and chained to a bed . . . how about a blue suede shirt over a tight white tee, faded Levis that fit and barefeet and he is smiling--gappy teeth and all?) It irritates me how few professional pictures show his teeth . . , don't they know we LOVE the gap?

I'm not very fond of all those moody photoshoots. I guess it's supposed to be manly and sexy. Usually it's just what it is: moody.

I much prefer him laughing. Not just posed smiling, but like I can almost hear his fantastic giggle. Or that big goofy close mouthed smile when he gets all wide-eyed and dimples in his cheeks.

And all this wearing a tight t-shirt & jeans and no shoes. Of course. Barefeet! Or socks... *purrs*

Well, I think half the appeal of Elijah for me anyway . . . is the fact that I truly believe the man has NO CLUE how fucking HAWT he is. He is so humble and self-effacing, it just makes my panties damp! I WANT to show him how incredibly "guh" he is!

And as much as I love suits, and dress-clothes . . . the bum-around-the-house look just works for me. I want him comfy and close to the bedroom, and hopefully without anywhere to be for the next two or three hours!

Oh, most definately, yes! It's like the man has never looked in a mirror or witnessed his own charming and adorable(=the sexeh!) personality! HOW can he not know? Yes...it makes one want to make him UNDERSTAND how incredible he is. Of all the yummy things about him, that is one of the very yummiest...his complete and utter lack of knowledge (apparently) of just how incredible and amazing he is.

I also tend to prefer the comfy look. Don't get me wrong...nothing wrong with a sharp dressed man...but I love to see the regular not-really-trying look.

He is incredibly "guh!"

If I had to guess, he's dirty because the hobbits get increasingly smudgy throughout FOTR and beyond, and that inspired the photograph to show him really filthed up.

I think it's cool, and looks great; I mean, they can't all be perfect shots of him in pretty clothes smiling or making frowny faces. It'd be boring. And photographers are always trying to distinguish themselves by trying something different.
