The broccoli test
Jan. 31st, 2006 11:04 amThe idea comes from when two friends S. and C. went grocery shopping, and S. tried to communicate to C. across several aisles that she wanted broccoli. She couldn't get C. to understand and when they got together she said something to the extend of 'Bodie wouldn't have had any trouble understanding what Doyle meant'. Now I don't know that particular pairing, but I love the idea of that test.
So the question is; which pairings pass the test? I'm going to try it for my favorite pairings:
Dom/Elijah: wouldn't understand each other, but would have loads of fun trying to pantomime 'broccoli' and probably end up laughing and giggling. That evening they eat Chinese take-out, and re-enact the whole thing for Billy.
Dom/Billy: Billy would raise an eyebrow slightly at Dom, and Dom would pick up broccoli without even doubting he's right.
Jim/Blair: Jim would know Blair wanted broccoli, but would hold up several other vegetables he'd rather eat. Blair would patiently keep shaking his head and repeat the broccoli gestures, until Jim gives up and takes the broccoli with a long suffering sigh.
Jack/Daniel: Jack would signal broccoli to Daniel, and then Daniel would signal lettuce, tomatoes and cucumber back. After a lot of signaling back and forth, they'd silently settle on carrots.
I can't get Casey/Zeke figured out for this test...
