I'm usually all about the hot McShep fics, but here are a couple of fics I read and loved, that are a different pairing (or not...), a different character altogether, a gen fic through the eyes of a pet, and a foursome (which is really rare for me, as I'm usually not an orgy-fic kind of girl):

[livejournal.com profile] icarusancalion wrote 'Tanlines & Dogtags' (Evan/John, NC-17), in which she answers the question "How the heck would anyone get John to pose for nude photos?"

It starts out hilarious, but soon becomes a tantalizing story about friendship and trust and feeling comfortable in your own skin. Very warm and sensual.

[livejournal.com profile] losyark wrote 'Zoh-onna Omote' (Miko, PG-13).

A gentle and sensitive fic about this young Japanese woman, who treasures her memories of the culture where she didn't quite fit in, and tries to find a place in this new life, where she's also just that bit different from the others. It moved me to tears, but also made me smile.

[livejournal.com profile] laceymcbain wrote 'Independence' (gen, G).

Who wasn't moved by the sight of Rodney reluctantly leaving his cat with his neighbour, when leaving earth... This is the story as seen through the eyes of the cat. I confess, I sniffled...

[livejournal.com profile] apple_pi wrote an as of yet titleless groupsex fic (John/Rodney/Ronon/Teyla, NC-17).

In this fic they all get what they want and then some, they're all equally treasured and loved, no one gets left behind. It's hot as hell, with a whole list of things that I find particularly horny. Very squirm-worthy, yet satisfying at the same time.

The movie 'The Faculty' has generated an incredible amount of fanfiction. Even years after its premiere, people still feel inspired to write their own versions, their own history, more background, the past, the future. It's not that the movie was such a masterpiece, but somehow the characters and the chemistry between them makes you curious about what goes on in their lives. How did they become who they are? What happens during those moments we don't get to see in the movie? And how will they move on from here, now they've shared this experience. Has it changed them? Fanfiction is also a fantastic way to rewrite all the things we feel have gone wrong in the movie.

Four years and some months ago [livejournal.com profile] vshendria started to write a fanfic that would turn out to become 'Borderlines', a twenty-eight chapters long epic story that basically deals with what happens after the 'happily ever after'. She wrote a whole history for the characters we know from the movie, with the emphasis on the relationship between Casey and Zeke, and wrote some original characters into the story that came to life for me like they were real. People whom I hated or loved. People who confused me, or about whom my opinion changed in the course of the series. I've cried and bit nails. I've giggled and burnt food while reading concentrated. I've reread and reread. Discussed the fic with others. Waited for new chapters.

'Borderlines' is a fandom within a fandom and now the last chapter is posted I'm feeling deeply satisfied, because the closing chapter is everything I hoped for, but I can't help but feel a bit melancholic too.

The weather's been so nice this weekend, and tonight mr. D_E and I were sitting outside in the garden, looking up into the slowly darkening sky. Right in our line of sight there was one lonely bright star, so I nudged him and said, 'huh, look at that'. He answered, 'yeah, it's there every night'. Then we said simultaneously '...a dead pixel'.
