[livejournal.com profile] resonant8 interviewed me, and now I'll interview you, if you like.

1. Leave me a comment saying, "Interview Me!" (or something of that ilk)
2. I will respond by asking you five questions.
3. Update your LJ with the answers to the questions.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions.

1. What's the best live-music performance you ever saw?

That must be at the Rock Werchter festival in 2003. The opening night of this yearly 4 day festival they had Bjork and Radiohead playing one after the other, and I thought I'd died and gone to heaven. It's one of those nights that still make my heart swell just thinking back on it.

Bjork's concert had this perfect build and it was during her performance that it was getting dark. She started with her more quiet, subtle songs. Just as darkness was falling, she sang 'Hyper-ballad', and when that song climaxes they had fireworks going off around the stage. The audience fairly exploded in cheering and bouncing and from there the concert burst into this energetic performance. She really set the mood that night.

After that Radiohead came up, and frankly, I hadn't expected them to be so good live, for their songs to work so amazingly, for Thom to be so charming, charismatic, all smiles and connecting with the audience and for them to so obviously enjoy themselves so much. "Hail to the thief" hadn't been released yet, and it was the first time I heard them play "There there". The song still gives me the shivers because of the memories of that performance.

The thing that struck me (among many other things) about those 2 concerts is that both Bjork and Thom can sound so fragile the one moment and overwhelmingly powerful the next.

After this I was fairly bursting from emotion and energy, and then they had a perfect closing act for the night, with Underworld playing from 1.00 am to 3.00 am, to which I could dance for 2 hours straight and not even feel tired afterward. They even did my favorite song by them, "Two months off", near the end. It was one of the best nights in my life. Thanks for asking.

2. Are you multilingual? What language do you dream in?

My language is Dutch and although my English is fairly good, I don't consider myself multilingual.

3. Can you play any musical instruments?

I used to play guitar and piano, but I haven't done it in such a long time that I doubt if I still could. I'm sure that with a little practice I could manage a couple of tunes though.

4. If you could force your favorite writers to write only for you, what would you make them write more of?

I so wanted to answer this question, but I can't, because every time I try, my mind keeps telling me that it can't be done. A writer can't be forced to do anything. I know you're aware of that, and I feel very silly for not being able to answer this question. It feels like when in a dream Elijah offers to make sweet love to me, and then I say I'd love to, but I can't, because I'm married. Sometimes I really want my rational mind to shut the fuck up. There must be an off-button somewhere, because it shuts off on me often enough at inconvenient times.

5. Do you have a favorite pair of socks? (Hey, don't laugh. I do.)

Well, actually, I do too. Last year I finally found a brand of cotton step shoe liners that actually stayed on my feet while walking. And they were cheep too! I was so happy to find them, I immediately bought 12 pair.
