I love David Hewlett with a warm passion, but some of his fans bring out the worst in me *clenches teeth*

Apparently you have to have a couple of insufferable trouble-seekers on every board, regardless of the subject of the site. There are the ones who keep bringing up subjects any sensible person just knows will get people upset. Then there are the upset people who keep trying to censor those who upset them. There's the person who feels the need to say something on any given subject and posts hundreds and hundreds of times. There are the anonymous nice posters, the anonymous assholes, the people who want to ban all anonymous posters. The person who is very loud about which person exactly she is ignoring.

And everyone is trying to explain David's words on the matter to their own advantage.

Am I the only one who sees the 'Life of Brian' connection in that last point?

Oh dear, are people being weird on his blog again, or is this somewhere else? I think it's useful to just ignore fandom except for the people you actually meet and like, online or not; it simplifies things. I assume that all fans are crazy, and from there narrow it down to the crazy I'm okay with (the ones like me, naturally, lol) and the ones I'm not (those I will blithely ignore).

Yeah, this is at the forum of David's site. It's been a long time since I've visited forums, and now I remember why. Damn I'm spoiled with LJ! Here it's way easier to avoid people that give me a headache. Some of these crazies are all over the forum and get OT at any given opportunity.

Ah, it's not that bad really, but I had to sort of let off steam over here and take a deep so I can brace myself for another visit next time.

Ugh. Forums are scary, and I hope he doesn't even read them, beause ew. I'm not the subject of any forums and I can't bring myself to read them.

Well, he appears to read his forum, because he's got a poll up now that concerns one of the major topics that's being discussed recently... I just hope (and frankly expect) him to be more amused then anything at the squirmings in his little antfarm project :)

He's a brave man. If I were famous and read forums/boards, I'd never appear at a fan event again!

Any dirt I'll be throwing your way will be in the shape of smut of the fanfic kind ;)

And I hope to get some back to. All through LJ though, leaving links at the forum makes me highly uncomfortable! Especially since David appears to be actually checking out the posts there (although I highly doubt he goes through all of it, probably mainly the ADB and FAQ stuff)

so glad i am missing this particular fandom kerfuffle, but you have my sympathy.

i get the impression that DH is up to whatever his fandom throws at him, much as Elijah used to be in an entirely different way.

may civility and politeness reign. even on the net.

*hugs*

I'm just not used to it anymore, since I've become very good at avoiding kerfuffle and wank and suchlike. After the initial 'shock' I feel I'm now up to it again. I'd love to know what David thinks when he clicks through his forum :)

I've done a lot of frantic typing and then dismissing again. I'm not good at actually taking part in the kinds of discussing that's going on there. It's very satisfying though when I see someone put into words what I've been trying to say.
