The Stargate Atlantis fandom is blessed with some amazing artists. I'm going to list some of my personal favorites here, and link some samples of their work. There's no way of comparing them really, because they each have their own style and technique. Some also draw in other fandoms. Check their journals for more!

Wow! Thank you for pointing these out: I hadn't seen any of these except anna_luna's work -- I love your icon, by the way (Rodney's serious expression!) -- and these are wonderful. I've been interested in fanart lately and perused pentapus's LJ but I hadn't found any of these artists. And now you've collected them neatly into one post!

I've only very recently found pentapus, so I didn't include her here, but this for example (http://pentapus.livejournal.com/125626.html) is too cute and I absolutely adore her Rodney/Teyla (http://pentapus.livejournal.com/123477.html) drawing; the look on Rodney's face is so sweetly surprised and I love the trust that's obvious in Teyla.

Yes, I'd seen that! When I was just starting out in the SGA fandom, and looking for icons we talked about this one of yours. She doesn't do SGA normally I understand, but she's got a lot of artwork up on her site!

As much as it's lovely enjoying art on your computer, it's wonderful having real art actually on the wall. I've got a lovely Elijah drawing made for me by finduilas_clln and I really treasure that one (plus for years it's been drawing attention and admiration by visitors).
