On the upcoming production 'Stargate Universe':
The new series will also be aimed at a slightly younger audience, SCI FI president Dave Howe said.
"This is an opportunity to reinvent this franchise and make it relevant to a new generation," he said. "We really don't want to be more of the same. It's going to build clearly off the existing franchise but with a cast that gives it a younger vibe."
Says I: building off the existing fanbase; you're doing it wrong.

Date: 2008-08-23 11:30 am (UTC)They've done that here with Spooks. Made a series called Spooks Code 9 or somesuch and its laughable. It's aimed at the 'younger' age group but it's so heavy handed and so thumpingly aimed at 'yoof' it's not living up to their expectations at all in terms of viewers.
Its not about making series for age groups -its about good ideas, good writing and good acting. Then, all age groups are happy. I can't see why the TV powers that be can't see this.
