Watched the rest of SGA 5x15 'Remnants' yesterday, because Mr. RC was there to hold my hand through it...
I'd watched the first 15 minutes alone, but seeing John tied up, at the mercy of Kolya, who was making good use of the fact, kind of freaked me out. So I decided to not watch the episode alone, and that worked.
I really liked this episode actually. It's tough to see how fucked up John is (also in his attitude towards women by the way), but I liked how he couldn't quite shrug it off by the end, when the alien said she was sorry he'd had to go through this.
Woolsey, how are you so awesome? And this applies to the actor who plays him too.
Will Rodney ever learn that if he treats his colleagues with a little more respect, it'll pay off? His sub-conscience seems to know.
I got these 'Phantoms' vibes quite early on, so some of the hallucinations weren't really a surprise. I really didn't see it coming that Radek had been a hallucination all along also! I thought 'Hee! Good one!' at first, and then felt weirdly disappointed, because I like Radek, and I would have liked him to be real.
Joe Mallozzi has done a write-up for this episode in his blog, and even if you don't usually like reading his blog, this is an interesting and fun read. Like this:
So, since Zelenka is really only a manifestation of McKay’s mind, he shouldn’t be noticed by anyone else except Rodney. I have to laugh every time I watch this scene because the tech wheeling in the device goes to great lengths to make this point VERY clear. (YouTube clip of the scene) (or Imeem). I hadn't noticed that!
Oh, and while I'm at it: The following scene is something everyone sees coming, but I have to lol anyway: 'You have found nothing' (YouTube) (or Imeem).
So, in conclusion: not the most original episode ever, no big revelations about the characters, but quite enjoyable and some really nice performances (Kolya is the meanest bastard ever, but Robert Davi plays him so brilliantly!)
And I've started torrenting Supernatural again. The last episode I've seen was 'Monster Movie', but then I stopped, because I didn't like where I thought they were going. I'm still not sure, but I've seen comments here and there that make me feel like I could give it a try, because at least some of my concerns are dealt with in a way I can deal with. Probably.
On a (sga related) side note, I don't think I'll be using my 'john kinda likes taking orders'-icon for a while...

Date: 2008-11-16 03:58 pm (UTC)As far as John and women, I know TPTB were trying to say John was hitting on a young scientist chick, but I totally read it as he and Rodney had had a little tiff that John was taking harder, and he took annoying!scientist taxi duty just to get away and cool off for a while. (Loved the Lorne/Parish shoutout, too. :-)
