Colin Morgan

Sit back and enjoy the Colin Morgan squee 'n drool fest over in [livejournal.com profile] franticsga's journal. Oh, and that other bloke, Bradley, is in there quite a bit too.

Merlin

[livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock finished 'Drastically Redefining Protocol' (AU, Arthur/Merlin, NC-17)
So it's no longer a WIP hence you have no longer an excuse to not read it. If you want to see the trailer before starting, [livejournal.com profile] zoetrope made one which you can check out over here (both streaming as downloadable), and it just hits the tone of the fic perfectly. Hectic, happy, adorable and sweetly moving.

[livejournal.com profile] franticsga has posted parts 8 and 9 of 'Be resigned' (AU, Arthur/Merlin, PG most parts R, for part 7)
Every time I rec this series I've been trying to explain what it is exactly I love so much about it, and why I love it more with each part. I didn't expect to be drawn into this particular universe (modern day US army) as much as I am. The characters feel so real, and I really care about them. I love the camaraderie among all these men and women. Their loyalty and compassion. The bond between Arthur and Merlin growing stronger and warmer. And don't let the rating fool you; the erotic tension is off the scale, squirming in my seat, sizzling, exquisite torture. There are scenes I've reread more times than I care to admit.

'Setting down the lines' by [livejournal.com profile] phantomjam (Arthur/Merlin, PG-13)
An established relation fic, a moment set somewhere in the future. Arthur and Merlin, older, less flexible, more experienced and scarred, but with the same banter and laughter, and more fondness than ever. It has a description of Merlin as seen through Arthur's eyes that took my breath away.

Merlin rps

'Most proud of' by [livejournal.com profile] lilithilien (Bradley/Colin, PG)
I love it when rps takes a real life moment and gives it a twist so you'll never look at that moment the same way again. Bradley is adorable in how he's slightly exasperated with his own worry, and I love how Colin is ok with it.

Untitled wee ficlet by [livejournal.com profile] luisadeza (Bradley/Colin, R)
A short smutlet that made me snort and giggle.

SGA

'The Touchstones of Our Characters' by [livejournal.com profile] velocitygrass (AU, John/Rodney, Katie/Rodney, NC-17)
Yep, that's Katie as in Katie Brown, established relation, but not explicit and it'll be John/Rodney, very explicit, trust me.
Rodney is comfortably satisfied with how things are going with his life; he's got a good job and a nice fiancée, things are going according to plan. Until he meets John Sheppard, who offers him a whole different future, not so comfortable but a whole lot more satisfying.
Oh, and I really need to point out the title graphic that [livejournal.com profile] sonadorita made for the story; it's fantastic.

*smoosh* Hi! I love that we love the same fics!

Have you read these? These are the RPS that blew my mind recently:[livejournal.com profile] coffeejunkii's And Nobody Wears a Crown (http://coffeejunkii.livejournal.com/752266.html), [livejournal.com profile] derryere's RPS Doesn't Get to Have a Title (http://derryere.livejournal.com/106433.html) (I wish she weren't so throw-away about it in the title, because it is not a throw-away fic!), and [livejournal.com profile] witheredsong's Never let me lose (http://community.livejournal.com/merlinrpf/24856.html). Fantabulous, all three.

I just finished reading 'And nobody wears a crown', and oh boy, thank you specifically for pointing that one out, because it's one of those fics that have me fumbling for words, and make me feel so inadequate at giving feedback.

I never thought I'd get into rps so thoroughly every again, not since Dom/Elijah.

I don't really differentiate between RPS and FPS. If the "story" of two characters captures me, and the writers are good enough, it doesn't matter whether the source inspiration is books, movies, or interviews. I've read RPS in pretty much every fandom I've been interested in (and, damn, I'm sorry I've only ever come across one Alan Rickman/Jason Isaacs. ;-)

I don't differentiate in that for me it's all fiction, obviously. For me RPS is like the script of a movie with the actors cast in as the romantic leads, so to speak.

At some point however, when it was clear that a whole lot of actors are aware of slash in general and even rps more specifically, I got a bit uncomfortable about it. I don't know, it must be weird to come across sexy fics concerning a character you play, but how weird must it be to come across these fantasies about yourself?! It's one thing to play Arthur and see stories about Arthur fucking Merlin, but quite another to see your own name mentioned in a pornographic story with your colleague.

I read it, I rec it and I would write it if I could, but I kind of like it to be kept a little low profile. For me there is a difference between fantasizing about fictional characters and fantasizing about real people.

My take on it is that if it's properly labeled and disclaimered up top, all' s fair. I mean, I'm sure that once LOTR hit big, Orlando Bloom didn't want to read through a site where 11-year-old girls were describing in explicit detail what they would do with him on a "date," either. Or Liv would backbutton if she hit a site that was clearly a bunch of guys describing what kind of scene they really wish she and Miranda had filmed together.

Public figures know that their "image" is something that complete strangers to them are going to have all sorts of reactions to. Nowadays what used to be talked about at slumber parties and water coolers, where the stars wouldn't have heard about it, is now on the internet where they could find it. (As well as any idiot with a keyboard's review of their acting abilities, which may be even more upsetting. ;-) I've heard of actors who think it's a hoot, and actually enjoy the attention, and actors who just don't check themselves out on the internet because they're not interested.

As I said, I think a label up top gives them (and anyone else who doesn't like the idea) a chance to back out. And I'm definitely one of those people who dislikes fans bringing it up to the actors at cons. It's not about them, the real people behind the image, so why push it on them? They can pursue it or not in the privacy of their own laptops.

I keep telling [livejournal.com profile] rodneyscat that Colin/Bradley doesn't do much for me but And Nobody Wears a Crown is absolutely wonderful so thanks for recommending it :-)

I finally got around to reading 'RPS Doesn't get to have a title' since it seemed like everybody was trying to get me to read it and I agree with your wishing she wouldn't be so 'hahahahaha, whatever, lol' about her fics (I also love her Arthur/Merlin 'Pavlov Penis') because she's not really selling her stories this way. Luckily for me other people are doing the selling for her! I wouldn't have wanted to miss them :D
