A couple of times I've tried writing a review to this episode, but haven't succeeded, because I can't really get the words right. It's like, I feel a lot and then want to point at those feelings and say 'that's it, that's how I feel'. If I try to describe it I always go, 'no, that's not quite it...'
I notice that when I watch clips (I like clicking around YouTube for snippets from the series, or fanvids, or interviews and such) I get so awfully melancholic! So much looks different now on hindsight.
It's silly really, because it's just a series, they're just imaginary characters (although some of the rl changes that obviously are caused by the fictional ones somehow shine through), but yeah.
It's an awful and great episode. Brilliant that they chose this set-up where you know early on something awful is going to happen, but at the same time you see so much private things of everybody. I loved everyone (ok, except Elizabeth's annoying date-guy), and probably the same things everyone else loved, so I'm not going to repeat them.
I've sobbed (literally sobbed) my way through the last part, and find myself tearing up over random clips now *g*. Like during some interview with Joe on the first season, they show the clip of Joe sitting down in the drone-chair for the first time, and Carson explaining about the gene, and I get all 'oh shit, he's gone'.
On a very, very superficial note: I loved how John asks Ronon if he's dating anyone. Ronon: 'you mean like a woman...?'. John: '...or a man'. And how John is so offhanded and undramatic about his apparent shot at marriage that didn't go very well.
Oh, and something I've changed my mind about: I kinda like Katie Brown. I still don't think she's The Woman for Rodney, but they're so comfortably awkward together, and I loved how she's soft-voiced and sweet but really knows what she wants. It's not like she dropped her plants, or even considered it, for the opportunity to have a date with Rodney. She let him come up with an alternative plan. I love how she said there's not a lot of subtext to him, and she acts that way too. And she made him smile so hopeful and amazed when he realized she really likes him the way he is. Her 'I bet you are' made my toes curl.
I really loved this episode, although it broke my heart to see everyone so devastated, to see Rodney crushed. I didn't get what that last bit was about, but I didn't mind it either.
