SG-1 the series, and SGA fanfiction

I've started watching the 5th season of SG-1. Some small observations and 2 screencaps:

My youngest considered himself damn lucky that we weren't watching the series in real time, but could cut from the cliff hanger of season 4, straight to season 5. He was very anxious about Teal'c. I'm glad we didn't get a lot of torture this time, because there'd been a bit too much for of that, specifically for Teal'c, in some of the past episodes, and I feared we'd get more of that.

A scene I was absolutely delighted with was Daniel getting Jack to talk about what had happened. The conversation started with Daniel asking if Jack wanted to talk about it, and Jack saying he rather didn't. And then he did all the same, with Daniel listening in such a quietly supportive way:



And then shortly after that the sweetly amusing scene where they're companionably bored together:



Where it comes to Daniel, Jack and Sam together, I just loved the way they fought the replicators; such a tight team! It was such a thrill watching them work together so smoothly. I've tried to cap that, but it doesn't work that way. It's the moving that's so brilliant.


Stargate Atlantis

samena asked me if I could point out "any really good Rodney/John kissing scenes", and to my utter frustration the only fic that comes to my mind with really good kissing is cesperanza's 'Three lovers', which has Rodney exactly the kind of kisser I believe him to be, but with Teyla. I love the fic to bits (also because Rodney/Teyla is second on my list of favorite SGA pairings), but it's not the Rodney/John kissing I'm looking for.

The SGA has some of the most amazing fics I've ever read, some of my favorite writers, and I can come up with lots of lists with touching scenes, banter scenes, kinky scenes etc, but when I think of good kissing, I think of Daniel/Jack, and Jim/Blair, and Dom/Elijah fics. Please prove me wrong!! Make me blush and go 'oh, how could I not have thought of that one!'

I love it in SG-1 land, and I'm savouring the series, taking my time with it. I've given up on the idea of having to 'catch up' or something. I'm spoiled for most of the big plot twists, but don't mind that one bit: I'm not in it for the plot twists anyway, I'm in it for scenes like the ones I've capped here, and the one I described. I love coming across these gems and being delighted about them.

Aw, you picked one of my favorite SG1 moments. I love that scene between Jack and Daniel. S5 is definitely one of their best seasons.

I just spend more time on this rec of yours than I care to admit. Ah, what the hell, I'll admit, because it was time well spend imho. I read, and reread and fumbled with feedback and rummaged through my journal in search of where my SGA loving started and dug up & uploaded my first SGA screencap.

Yes, I know that site, and every once in a while I visit it, but I must say I much prefer relying on recs, because people will say why they like a fic, which gives an indication of whether I will like it too. Thanks for the link though! There's a lot out there I still don't know about, and there's no way of knowing what it is, until you ask :D

oh, these are really nice caps! lol, at the dorks. Season five, yeah, uuuhm *blank mind*. Ok, I don't remember what happened in what season anymore. I think my favourite episode of SG-1 is still in Season 1: But for the grace of god, where Daniel is trapped in another dimension.

Oh wait, Season 5! I know what happens in the finale. Ha, you will cry!

Rodney and Teyla? Now I never thought of this pairing. *Ponders*

For I see much more Sheppard/Teyla interaction in the episodes, not to mention hot stick fights. :D

I know I will cry, because I know what will happen! I also know what will happen a season later, so that'll help... Plus season 6 has Jonas, which is something I'm looking forward to.

Rodney and Teyla, yeah. I have a thing for that pairing, which I can't really explain well. I can't so much see them as being in an exclusive relationship, but I can see them being good together, looking back on that with fondness and being able to have an even better working relation after. I'd love to see Rodney with a strong woman, and as much as I love the thing between Sam and Rodney, I don't feel Sam would want to have sex with him. Katie Brown in my eyes wasn't good enough for Rodney; too boring and pouting.

And for me John and Teyla feel like brother and sister. Lots of love, respect and occasional fun together, but no sexual attraction.

I love that scene! But if you thought the s4 cliffhanger was bad, how about knowing from the end of s5 you need to watch all the way through s6 to s7 to get your resolution? *angst!*

You're right -- I can't think of a lot of kissing in J/R fic. I mean, it happens, sometimes, but not in-depth. As you say, there's a lot of banter and kink. There's also a lot of hurried, we-could-die franticness and/or buddy-fucking that turns into something more. One of the few I can think of that builds up to a focus on kissing is Lady Ra's Loving Rodney (http://visionsofprettyboys.com/Atlantis/LovingRodney.htm) (which adorably portrays Radek and Atlantis herself, as well as John and Rodney).

By the way, in the course of season 4 I began to see what you're objection for (against? with? concerning? damn, spell-check doesn't help there...) the Sam/Jack pairing is. It was starting to feel forced, especially because I felt they were taking away some of the warmth between Jack and Daniel. The lack of warmth between Jack and Daniel felt forced too. I wonder this was all done intentionally. It was doubly good to see it come back again in the later episodes of season 4, and seeing it continued in season 5.

Somehow I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't come up with a lot of kissing fics for Rodney/John. And even the ones that do have some of that, are more memorable for other things. The fic you linked to is fantastic! But mostly for the way Atlantis is in it as a character and John's quietly amused, proud, fond and loving observation of Rodney; thanks for linking!

I thought all of the S/J was forced in s4, but I saw it in a 6-episode arc from Divide and Conquer to Beneath the Surface, and after that, I haven't seen any interest on Jack's part -- as if, when they got their memories back, he decided, "This has to stop." But during that time, I did hate the way it pulled the balance of the four of them off-center.

The J/D relationship, though, I have a different theory about. To me, they are each moving towards each other's point of view -- Daniel becoming more understanding that in some situations the military answer IS the answer, and Jack realizing that acting on his conscience rather than orders is the right thing to do. Yet they have their roles that they're supposed to play out, and it frustrates them. I think the arguments were sort of pro forma, so that they could say that they'd argued their side, and then went ahead and did what needed to be done. It was worst in The Other Side, when Jack was really fighting being the disobedient officer. But by Beast of Burden, he lets Daniel badger him into doing the right thing pretty easily.

Loving Rodney (because I do!) is adorable, isn't it?
