My YouTube account has just been suspended. No announcement, nothing. Everything is just gone.

My subscriptions.

My carefully cataloged favorites.

Just FUCK!!

What the hell?! Do you even know why they'd do such a thing? You're going to fight to get it re-instated, right?? *petpetpet*

Yeah, I knew they could do it, I just foolishly didn't think they would. I wrote them, but it's irreversible, so I've started a new account, for favorites and subscriptions only!

Yeah, that's what happened to me. I got a few warnings for some clips that they took down anyway, but nothing about my entire account until it was all gone. My 140+ SGA clips probably did it, but I was so pissed that I lost my 100+ favorited videos. -_-

I made a new account and made a start of collecting the clips and subscriptions I had on my suspended one, but I got all sad just thinking about all the clips I'll have to look up again, plus I don't remember exactly whom I'd subscribed to.

First thing I did was add h0rrid though!

Which again made me all meh, because I'd been number 32 back then and now I'm number 1058. And not even as dutcheowyn. And just... *slumps*

Damnit. That truly blows!

I better get the rest of mine backed up. I only lost one that I was truly fond of. Now, I convert them with Zamzar.

Did you post any copyrighted material? That's the only reason I can think of for them yanking the account where you wouldn't have a clue. I've seen this happen so often I think that, if I were to post a clip from somewhere that's copyrighted, I'd make a special account. Then, if they yank the account, I'd still have all my organized stuff.

I'm so sorry this happened. The corporate beast rumbles through every so often, leaving outrage and desolation in its path. Take care.

Yep, I posted copyrighted material. I'd already taken down 'hot' material, but this time it was over old stuff that's not for sale somehow, so I don't see how that's hurting any company. And I didn't think they'd take down my whole account.

That's a good idea by the way to have two accounts! Just make sure that they don't have the same email address, because they check that. I've opened a new account and had to use a different email address to do it.

The "clue phone" does not ring at a corporate company's office. What people have learned years ago is that online communities and offerings over the internet actually _increase_ sales because they expose people to the material, which they then obtain legitimately (or would, if it were available--*roll eyes*).

But this does not occur to the suit! *shaking finger* "Hey, now, that material is copyrighted! We deserve to make back our x% for having put up the money to produce it, even though we made our profit back years ago, and have no intention of marketing it again ever you are WRONG WRONG WRONG so I will erase all your links just to make the point, you evil little free-promotion-that-will-ultimately-benefit-me person."

You can't tell I have an opinion on this, can you? :) Good luck on the new account, and the stealth account when you get that set up. Cheers.

Youtube is being sued by the world, it seems, over copyright infringement. I think they've been on a mad spree to clean things up. It does suck.

I'm sorry.

FUCKSES!!

Did they change their tos without telling anybody?

Did some stupid bible-belters in the USofA all of a sudden take offence?

I'm sorry for you, darling D-E-
I hope you'll be able to get back all your beloved stuff!!

Heh, no, I should have known better myself! It's one of those things that's in the rules, but it's not often the rules are applied to the letter, so it's basically my own fault for not taking their threats seriously.

Doesn't mean I can't sulk and feel sorry for myself though!! ;)

They say it's irreversible *fist of rage* I don't care if they'd take down my vids and disable the upload function or something; I only wanted my favorites and subscriptions back!!

Well, I've learned my lesson, and will sure be more careful with copyrighted material from now on.

By the way; your 'Not us' missing scene fic cheered me up mightily yesterday. Oh boy, did it ever...

Well, they did warn in a way. That MTV2 clip was apparently copyright infringement, and they took it down. It had been the second time something had been taken down for that reason, but back then I'd taken down other possibly copyrighted material myself. I just didn't expect them to take down my whole account days after taking down that MTV2 clip. And that they did without warning. Although it is in the rules that they can do that. The account won't be reinstated; I asked, and they said no.

I know they're technically right, and I'm technically wrong, but I'm pouting and stamping my foot and saying 'it ain't fair!' for a bit anyway.

Lord, I love this icon!

That's really sad, I'm sorry.

Youtube should have changed their name to Youseless when they got purchased by Google. I saw it coming big time. It was too cool to survive a big corporation.

I should have seen it coming! And you're right; it can't be what we want it to be when it's so big.

And now I can't be dutcheowyn up there anymore! Everywhere I'm dutch_eowyn; with or without a blanc space, an underscore or hyphen. I had to come up with a new name for my new account, which almost feels sneaky. I feel like explaining myself at the account page!!

Well, frankly I'm D_E on some sites, but those are sites with the kind of content that's not allowed on YouTube *shifty eyes*

I suck at being anonymous.

They did warn for particular vids, but not that they'd taken down the whole account.

I didn't have anything up on my account that would harm sales of anything anywhere. I know copyright goes further than that, but it does mean that it's rather random in how YouTube allows or suspends. If someone complains they will take clips down, and if an account gets a second complaint, they will take the account down. Even if you think the company complaining is being ridiculous, which I think they were in both cases, especially in the second one.

Somewhere in the rules it should say: 'if we have to choose between the big guns and you little guys, the big guns win; shut up and eat it'.

Can you tell I'm sulking?

that's odd.

Mine got terminated, but I got a violation notice about a video right before that.

I did get a violation notice for a particular video. They'd taken that one down, and referred me to the rules some more. Then a couple of days later I noticed by accident my account had been suspended altogether, and I'd never gotten a notice of that.

Some months ago I got a notice for another video, and back then I'd taken down all related videos after that myself. I hadn't taken any particular action this time because there were no related vids, and the ones I had up had been there for a very long time.

Apparently this counts as repeated violation. I've got a vid of my cat up on my new account, that should be safe ;)
But seriously. I considered putting up a vid of my youngest jumpstyling, but then I realized that the music he's dancing to is copyrighted, so I'm not sure how that would work...

yeah, it's a pain. What pissed me off the worst was that the one Viacom took down that started it all, wasn't actually a violation at all. However, since 90% of the rest of mine WERE, there wasn't too much I could say.
