I'm gonna buy an ipod *is very excited*

The thing is that:
1) I've been away from home a lot lately and when I'm at home there are usually others with whom I'm talking or watching tv etc, and I noticed I missed listening to my own choice in music.
2) I spend quite some hours every week traveling to and from my work.

I figured, why not combine these two points and buy an mp3 player. I can listen to music while I travel! What a concept!! It had to be a cheap player of course, because it's just for me... When I told mr. D_E about my clever plan he rolled his eyes and told me to go get an ipod.

So this weekend I've been getting used to the idea. Today, during my break, I went to a nearby store that sells 'm and fell in love with this little cutie. There's a special offer on them this week and this store accepts the coupons I got from the cinema as my goodbye present, which made me feel a little more comfortable about the whole idea.

I've started putting together a folder with my absolute favorite songs from my cd's and tonight I installed itunes and bought my first five songs there; four because they can't be bought over here any other way and one because it's the very first song I downloaded illegally by way of Kazaa way back when.

For those who are curious about such things:
The four are:
Rascal Flatts - What hurts the most
Carbon Leaf - Life less ordinary
Iron & Wine - Evening on the ground
John Butler Trio - Zebra

The one is:
Blue Oyster Cult - Don't fear the reaper

And tomorrow I'm gonna buy an ipod. *beams*

I'll probably be getting one too, because at my new job I'll be working in an office with around 8 others (though many of them are either part time or travelling a lot) and therefore a radio like I have now doesn't work anymore. Will have to start investigating. :)

Or any kind of MP3 player... looking at the prices, I'm not so sure I'll get an iPod!

I got a mp3 for Christmas, it's a Creative Zen and I call it Spike. When I first started playing with it it asked if I wanted to 'synchronize with my computer'?

I had no idea if I wanted to (I'm a techno idiot remember) but it kept asking nicely so I eventually said yes. Next thing I knew all my music was on it. What a clever little thing!

And then I discovered this...

Be afraid, be very afraid for soon you'll be walking round supermarkets listening to slash fic and almost crying like I did

oh man, podfic, I hadn't even thought about that yet... It would be risky listening to something like that while travelling; I just know I'd miss my stop at some point!

It's addictive.

But wonderful! Once you try it you won't look back. I've found some amazing fics and fallen in love with one readers accent.

I'm trying to find an easy way to just copy and print the list of songs I've got, because I don't feel like typing down the whole list, but that seems to be the only way. Maybe a screencap? There's got to be a way to show each other what we've got to share!

Yes! Having a player is fabulous, also for going to sleep in strange places. I have the radio attachment: BBC Worldwide is very comforting (I know, I'm odd).

From what I've heard, the iPod does tend to be better quality (manufacturing and interface) than the other ones.

A radio attachment for iPods? That sounds intriguing, can you tell me a little more about it?

I didn't know there was such a thing, other then archived podcasts.

Yeah, I saw that too. When I go looking for a page on the net, I get redirected automatically to Dutch sites, but it's supposed to be an Apple MA070G/A iPod Radio Remote. If you google that from where you're sitting you'll probably get English info.

Beware the addictive powers of the iPod, once you've fallen under its spell there is no way out. But oh what a glorious addiction!

Congratulations!

I got one for Christmas and it rocks. I have some fanvids, a Sentinel episode, songs and a dozen fanfics loaded onto it and it is my precious, yes it is.

Enjoy yours!

Fanvids!! What kind of formats does the ipod support? Most of my stuff is .avi, but I doubt that would work. I'll have to find some thingy that converts files from something that won't play into something that will. How very technically put by me...

This page has some handy stuff

I used this to convert vids to be loadable onto my ipod:

and it worked really well.

Eeee, that's the exact same iPod I have!! I got it from my family for my 40th birthday. Mine is also blue, and I have a see-through plastic case, so you can still see the colour, and it's well protected. I don't use the earplug-phones, because my ears get irritated, and they kept falling out anyway, so now I have some nice headphones. It's so wonderful to have an iPod on the train, when you want to read something, or do a bit of homework, and there are people constantly yapping all around you. With your iPod you can just tune them out, *and* listen to your favourite music. It's ideal. And 8 GB is quite a lot. I have lots of albums on there, and it's still not completely full. You can even upload and play movies, etc, but I haven't done that yet.

Anyway, great choice! :D I hope you'll have lots of fun with it!!

BTW, I really like Iron & Wine as well. It's such lovely music to relax. I have a playlist called 'mellow guitar songs,' and there's lots of Iron & Wine in it.

Yes, I do the quiz all the time, and sometimes I'll hear a fragment and I'll be like: hey, I didn't know that was on there too! :D And yes, I'm not too fond of questions like: 'is this album from 2003 or 2004?' I get those wrong a lot. I like to put the entire iPod on shuffle and just see what comes up. It's such a wonderful little device! Who would have thought this was possible, when we were all walking around with walk-mans and tons of cassette-tapes, 20 years ago, eh?

Well I guess you are busy playing with your new toy now :-) They're wonderful.
And I can just picture Mr. D_E roll his eyes at you and tell you to get the proper gadget...
