I'm suffering from 'feedback-angst'; I've had it before, but it's never been as bad as now. There are fics I'm dying to leave the author a raving and grateful message, but when I open the comment window I feel something very similar to performance anxiety building up in me and nothing comes out. Or something so lame that it feels like leaving a 10 cent tip in a fancy restaurant after a particularly gourmet meal.

This calls for my 'socially dysfunctional but sweet and well meaning' Grant icon.

it's in no way like a tip at a restaurant. really! any writer would be glad to get: "This is so wonderful I have no words to describe it. I am speechless. Thank you for posting."

Sometimes it even feels like I'm intruding a writer with feedback and in some journals there are such lively conversations going on, all writers among writers, and I feel completely out of place. I only have that feeling with people who haven't got me friended by the way. I figure, people who have me friended probably don't mind me talking to them ;)

The feeling gets worse for those writers who are very conscientious about replying to comments.

well, honestly, even the very B-est of the BNFs would never shrug off a "thank you for posting." I've run across exactly two BNFs in five years in fandom who seemed to wish their stories didn't get all those comments! because they were such a burden! hee hee.

and you, imho, are so charming and nice and thoughtful that anyone would be glad to have you as a reader. truly. *pets*

also? some of the best feedback and concrit i've ever gotten was from readers who don't write (or who claim they don't write lol.) so don't be put off because you think the conversation is only among writers. I really mean that.
