As much as I adore James Spader as Daniel in the movie, Michael Shanks makes a pretty damn good Daniel too. And one thing I have to say in favour of him; he definitely aged better.

Just saying. Yum.

You are cracking me the hell up. We should talk sometimes about the movie and SG1. I really enjoyed your last post commenting about it -- and agree with you, especially about Sha'uri. I adored the movie-version of her SO MUCH.

Early Michael Shanks did such a brilliant job of being James Spader, didn't he? And slowly and gracefully grew into his own version of Daniel.

Ahh, how I loved that show . . . before it broke my heart into teensy pieces and pissed on them.

Up to what point did you enjoy SG-1? I mean, you told me a bit of the background of what put you off of it, but I'm not sure which seasons you've watched and enjoyed. I think from some point you've stopped watching altogether, right? Or have you seen an occasional episode here and there?

This cap is from one of the last episodes in season 10.

My thoughts exactly!

I watched all the earlier ones -- repeatedly -- until they killed/ascended Daniel. At that point I realized what utter and complete assholes the producers were and gave up. I've seen bits and pieces of later episodes, but that's all.

I am ridiculously angry at the show, in a way that embarrasses me. I mean, Daniel is a fictional character, right? But they treated him (and Michael Shanks) so shabbily, plus I think the SG PTB are -- as I've said many times -- sexist, racist, and homophobic.

But early SG1? Oh, it made so, so happy.

Do you have a recent pic of James Spader, as further evidence? ;D

I saw him in some tv series, not too long ago, and I thought he still looks good, too.

Oh, it's not like he's not handsome anymore, I just much prefer Michael Shanks. It's a bit of an unfair comparison really, because in this particular cap of Daniel, he's putting up his flirty face, which is the one I'd be saying 'yes, oh god yessss...' to whatever he'd ask of me.

This picture of James is from Boston Legal, which was shot around the same time as the scene from SG-1 I've used here.

I know what you meant. BTW, I thought Michael Shanks was still pretty young, but in your cap he looks older than I thought. Which isn't too say he looks old. *g* I should look up both their ages. I'm curious that way. ;)

And I think that's where I saw James Spader, yes; Boston Legal. He played a very interesting character there.

I just checked and there's 10 years between them apparently, which makes it unfair to compare I guess. Michael will turn 38 this year, and James is 48.

*nods in agreement* I do like my toyboys but some men do age rather nicely - and he sure is one of them!

I find I'm kind of getting over young men; these days I prefer 'm my own age, and sometimes even (gasp!!) older.

The really cute young guys I prefer to squish togethah. Like that *handmotions*

For me it's probably the combination of sparkling eyes and a lush mouth; sex and fun, the best combo ever.

Now *that* is lovely!! I got into SG1 watching the series first and then went back and watched the movie at some point between watching the boxset seasons. As someone said below, it really was amazing what a fabulous homage Shanks did as James Spader, but by the second half of the series run, he had *made* Daniel his own. But it's such a wonderful evolution of the Daniel character as well, which is probably one of the reasons I actually enjoy reading the old fic and the newer fic -- the good writers capture that evolution and growth beautifully.
