I took a couple of small clips from the episodes 3 and 4 and uploaded them to YouTube:

A taste of the slashyness between Merlin and Arthur.

A taste of the sweet and awkward flirting between Merlin and Gwen:

I think I'm more a Merlin/Gwen shipper than a Merlin/Arthur slasher. I'm not sure though. Can I be both?

Oh good...

Hm, in episode 7 the whole servant/master thing was starting to annoy me on Merlin's behalf, especially because he seems to be more or less ok with it. I rather like Merlin and Gwen being equals. Plus Gwen is one hell of a lovely lass!

There's a lot to like about it, but I'm especially taken with the spot on casting they've done; each person fits perfectly into the role they've been given.

I bought the SFX today, and I totally agree with what they say about it:

The script is witty and there's plenty of action to keep things exciting, and considering the relative inexperience of the younger cast, there are some fantastic performances all round.

Sure there are anachronisms and things that don't fit with our traditional ideas of the Merlin and Arthur legends, but if you choose to focus on those you're rather missing the point. 'Merlin' is a light, fun bit of family entertainment that should be enjoyed for what it is.

Not to mention the eye-candy...

yes, that's exactly right but it does something that the newest Robin Hood never did for me -it gets me involved. I like the characters a lot more and the acting is terrific while I only ever went for Richard Armitage in leather in Robin Hood. (not that that was ever a bad thing...)
