Well...

Don't expect too much about this series in my journal. The pilot was interesting enough, but this episode didn't do much for me. Maybe I shouldn't have seen them back to back, because really, the original cast is just so much more interesting! And there's not enough interaction between Mitchell and George in here.

I've uploaded two small clips to YouTube. Examples of scenes with a different cast.

From the pilot

From the episode

I'm not giving up just yet, but my expectations aren't really high.

I'd not seen the pilot so thanks for uploading these bits. I love Andrea Riseborough but she's becoming a real star now (see The Devil's Whore) so I expect she was busy when they came to film the series.

Interestingly different interpretation of Mitchell.

I really enjoyed the episode this week and am prepared to give it a go.

Oh, I'm prepared to give it a go as well. It could make waiting for new Merlin a bit easier...

Hm. I still have to download the pilot...from the YT clip, can't see enough about how their relationships work in that short bit. Mitchell in the pilot clip does nothing to me but that's because I'm not into lanky guys wearing loads of bracelets! He reminds me of Orlando who never did anything for me. Girl in the first episode is too pretty and angsty, but girl in the pilot is too prat-ty...and the accent grates on my nerves, argh.

Maybe I should catch up with BG instead????

Yeah, he really reminded me of Orlando too, and this guy isn't really my type either, but there's something about him that just works for me. He reminded me a bit of a cat.

[edit] Oh, and where are you with Battlestar Galactica? Harry and I just started on season 2. It was quite funny really, because last week we finished season 1 which ends with a major cliffhanger, and we just stared at the screen and realized we didn't have the season 2 box yet... It's the first time ever that it was him who suggested first we should buy season 2 asap, and season 3 too for good measure.

I'm nowhere with it! Watched the pilot and I watched what is on the TV now and of course concluded that it was no fun since I was missing the kind of huge bit in the middle. There's a S1-4 boxset which is cheaper than buying the separate ones so I'm pondering if I should just get that...

I'm going to watch the pilot and the episode once I get them downloaded, but having watched these clips, I can't understand... why they would replace the original cast members. They were perfect. These replacement actors are... shallow in comparison. The vampire doesn't exude the sensuality of the original, the werewolf isn't as cute and full of personality as the first, and the ghost... please.

The werewolf is the same actor in the pilot and in the series actually, but I do feel some things have changed for his character too. For example, he doesn't get naked as often anymore...

Really? lol... what did they do to him? Of course, I only watched those three clips so far, but they... cleaned him or something.

You know I only just now noticed, upon checking those clips again, that in both clips from the pilot he's wearing glasses, and in the one from the first episode he isn't. I don't know why, because he actually has glasses in the episode too.

*puzzled*

Well, I'm with you on this one. Loved the pilot clip, but the cast in the episode just didn't work for me.

Such a shame. Thanks for uploading the clips.

Yeah, the more I see of the pilot (while making those clips for example) the more I feel sad they didn't continue the way they started, for example by waiting for the complete original cast to be available again. Ah well, I think the series will be fun anyway, but not as much as it could have been.

Damn. On the one hand, I like that they went multicultural with the cast. On the other, I thought the original Annie and Mitchell were both incredibly compelling and charismatic. (I was thinking Mitchell was more like Adrian Brody dressed in Orlando's clothes. ;-) If they were going to switch out an actor, I would have gone with the third. The new Mitchell can probably bring that vibe--it was hard to tell in the scene from second clip. The new Annie--I don't know whether TPTB decided to go in a different direction with the character, the director for that ep told her to be like that, or what, but cutesy-bubbly isn't my type.

From what I understand the 'original' Mitchell and Annie weren't available anymore for the series. Quite some time passed between the pilot and the moment they got the ok to make a series. Straight after this pilot was the pilot for dis/connected. If that would have been continued, they would have found Bradley not available for that series either... :D

Oh, and I think I'm one of the very few for whom Adrian Brody doesn't have any appeal.

I think that happens a fair bit between pilot and pickup.

I think the actor playing Mitchell is more attractive than Adrian--I was thinking along the lines that he has that intensity and charisma, plus the angular bone structure that Adrian has. I do think Adrian Brody is an amazing actor.
