Colin Morgan

[livejournal.com profile] wewerefighters made a lovely pic spam of the many faces of Colin: From cute one moment to beautiful the next. From gentle smile to sparkling laughter. From soft to intense. From silly to serious. From mischievous to outraged. One moment with a teddy bear, the next with a chocolate 'painis'. He's really got quite a range!

LOTR

For those who didn't know yet: [livejournal.com profile] fennelseed's journal now is an archive for her fics, maintained by [livejournal.com profile] frodosweetstuff. For me Fennelseed's fics will always be the most fun and sexy LOTR fics I've ever read and I'm glad her former journal is being used this way :D

Merlin

'Sweltering' by [livejournal.com profile] astolat (Arthur/Merlin, NC-17)
Written for the Pornbattle IV. Slow and sensual, with a topping Merlin.

'Moment of weakness' by [livejournal.com profile] twobees (Arthur/Merlin, NC-17)
Arthur is an indignant drunk, Merlin is annoyed and still they're having enthusiastic and playful sex.

'Three tasks' by [livejournal.com profile] syllic (Arthur/Merlin, NC-17)
I love how this story develops. It's hilarious first, and then somewhere along the line I went from laughing out loud to smiling. It turns so sweetly warm, with Arthur having these serious moments and Merlin observing him. I'm usually all about Merlin, but here I was rooting for Arthur something fierce, while also wanting all the best for Merlin. Which is exactly what they got.

'I could have been one of these things first' by [livejournal.com profile] hackthis (Arthur/Merlin, PG)
Merlin wingfic with Disney cross-over, and nothing actually happens that would make it anything other than PG rated, but it still had me squirming.

Merlin vids

'Exit music for a witch' by [livejournal.com profile] heyiya (Gen, Morgana, Nimueh, Sophia, PG)
I love the series to bits, but I do see how the women are being slapped down for their magic whereas the men generally get away with being assholes, and how this can be annoying enough for some to take away the fun. This vid offers some satisfaction in that respect; the women strike back.

'Drastically Redefining Protocol Trailer' by [livejournal.com profile] zoetrope (Arthur/Merlin, PG)
A fanvid at its best. Really, everything is just perfect about this vid, I could watch it on repeat. If you don't know the AU WIP by [livejournal.com profile] rageprufrock that this vid is a trailer for (then why the hell aren't you reading it yet?!); it's a modern day romance between prince Arthur and junior doctor Merlin. Zoetrope took behind the scenes clips and all sorts of footage with paparazzi and news flashes and cleverly mixed everything together. Plus; music by Badly Drawn Boy!! I just... *watches again*

SGA

'Straight guys' by [livejournal.com profile] almostnever (John/Rodney, NC-17)
Broke my heart and put it back together again.

SGA convention

A couple of weeks ago was the Pegasus 4 convention in Heathrow with Paul McGillion (Beckett), Chuck Campbell (Chuck). James Bamford (Bam Bam, Stunt co-ordinater), Christopher Heyerdahl (Todd) and Neil Roberts whom I don't know, and there are some fantastic reports by [livejournal.com profile] jhava over here and by [livejournal.com profile] beeej over here and here.

Hm, how interesting! I think that [livejournal.com profile] astolat used a phrase from one of their earlier fics in 'Sweltering' - from 'Injukyoshi', in fact, unless I am much mistaken - then took the phrase out of the earlier fic. It gave me a very odd feeling to read the same wording again in a different context.

Also, looks like a new installment (http://franticsga.livejournal.com/24753.html) of Be Resigned was just posted. \o/

I haven't noticed that about those [livejournal.com profile] astolat's fics, but I know the feeling, because it once happened to me with [livejournal.com profile] firiel16, and when asked she said that sometimes a certain sentence just pleased her so much, she wanted to use it multiple times.

And yeah, my compulsive checking of [livejournal.com profile] franticsga's journal got rewarded by part 7. And what a part!! Oh what am I saying, I love them all :D

I've read a few Merlin fics now too. I haven't seen the show but it's never stopped me before. Here are some thoughts if you're interested:

First I read Shalott's Reciprocation (http://community.livejournal.com/merlin_flashfic/17018.html). She's such a marvellous writer -- the story is believable and both thoughtful and funny. I was a bit squicked by some things though; I don't know if I would have thought they were funny before, maybe I'm feeling more sensitive than usually. Arthur's growth is shown excellently in the story, and I really enjoyed his and Merlin's dynamic.

Then I read The Trouble with Unicorns (http://www.intimations.org/fanfic/merlin/The%20Trouble%20With%20Unicorns.html) (by Shalott), and it was well written and light-hearted, and I liked it a lot.

I also read her Despoiled (http://community.livejournal.com/merlin_flashfic/10847.html) because you recced it, and it's lovely. I love the premise of wanting each other but not feeling it's possible to have sex and then being told to have sex. Hee. It's my favourite kind of AMTDI (or X Made Them Do It): they want to but don't (and maybe don't even admit that they want to), then they're told to do it and do, and then they're not told to do it anymore so they have no excuse and have to admit that they really, really want to and kind of love each other too. ♥

Shalott has this way of writing about potentially triggery stuff (dub con, aliens-made-them-do-it etc.) in a casual way. Sometimes I'm in the mood for that, and sometimes I take it a little too seriously and then I better skip those stories. But I always come back to them when it's Shalott. I don't know why I don't mind her way of dealing with it.

The trouble with unicorns (which I haven't read yet) looks to be a part of some sort of series. Kinda. I think... Some of her latest fic(let)s are prequels or sequels. I haven't figured it out yet. I'm in one of those phases where when I click a link to a fic, and it looks like I need to make even a little bit of an effort to work out the logistics of reading, I'm just skipping. Another thing to come back to later!

Oh! I hadn't read Sveltering yet, and I love it. Gives me all kinds of interesting mental pictures.

Yeah, I can see how that is really your kind of fic. Well, it's mine too, what with the languid movements and sweating and Merlin not knowing the meaning of boundaries, hmmm...
