The script for the film is actually based on an excerpt of the book that appeared in New Yorker magazine, not the book itself. So my guess is that quite a bit of liberties were taken. Liev wrote the screenplay, not JSF.

Frankly, it doesn't explain "Jonathan's" whole get-up. I still don't understand why the portrayal of JSF had to be so nerdy- and outdated-looking.

I knew JSF didn't write the screenplay but I didn't know it was based on the excerpt rather than the whole book. Hmm. That's interesting, thank you!

Maybe that explains why JSF looks like such a dork in all the pictures I've seen.

We're gonna have to wait til next year to find out for sure but "dork" is putting it mildly. The real JSF sure doesn't look like that (except for the glasses -- not nerdy glasses like those tho -- and black hair).
