I just did some pretty radical on-line changing, varying from deleting my site, deleting 4 *rolls eyes at self* personal and one fandom journal (leaving me with just this one here) and some changes on my reading list. The only reason for this is that I feel I'm going one way, and some have gone another. If anyone has questions, don't hesitate to ask! There are no traumatic events or secret grudges going on, I just don't feel like spamming you all with long explanations for the deletings and changes, when most of you probably feel this is clear enough.

See you around, and I truly hope there are no hard feelings.

You're a good example of how people's interests may change, but friendships keep going on. And sometimes people move in different directions, and that's okay, too. As for me, I really like reading about the new interests of my friends. It broadens my horizon, too.

*uses yaoi icon to illustrate point* ;)

Broadening horizons is damn interesting but also quite time-consuming I found out! I've had a little dip into yaoi myself too, and still like to get some gems pointed out every now and then. I'm kind of glad not everything sucks me in though, or there'd be nothing left of me! *uses obscure little fandom icon*

I know what you mean about time-consuming. Sometimes I go all out and follow links, download clips, read fics, etc, to see why someone likes this particular fandom so much. At other times it's ust enough to see how much enjoyment someone is getting out of their fandom. It's like second-hand glee, you know what I mean? And I use 'second hand' in the best sense of the word, for lack of a better word. :D

As for yaoi, I'll see if I can get you some good links. A lot of stories have non-con and incest and violence, so I guess that's not for you, but there are also lots of stories that are sweet and romantic.

I have to admit, I'm a little gutted you deleted your rec journal (and I assume your site?). On boring days and low ones I used to go plunder from the archives for something guaranteed to make me smile. I'm sad to see that resource gone. :(

I never think of you as fandom. You seem to have so many(!) and in the past we have shared LOTR and certainly a little dip into the world of CKR as well - I hope that we're past the fandom thing and into something closer to friendship. I like to think so.

I like to think so too.

I want to take this opportunity to tell you that I haven't forgotten about your book! It's lying here, in an envelop, with an added card with some comments about the content. I enjoyed the book thoroughly, for several reasons, not just for the CKR part. But it looked so fragile all of a sudden! I was scared to send it, afraid harm would come to it (I'm not all that trusting that postal services will be kind to packages, with good reason). But today I came into possession of a nice sheet of bubbleplastic, which combined with a bigger envelop makes me more confident of sending it back. I'll be in London at the beginning of Februari for a couple of days and I'd checked where you live, but it's too far away to bring it to you personally, seeing as my days are quite crammed then. Postal service and finger crossing will have to do then.

I know you'd said you weren't in a hurry to get the book back, but it's been a while, and I've lost some books myself to basically nice people with short memories.

Oh I'm way too far away from London - such a shame. I'm sure that the book will be fine in the post, and there really is no problem with it - hang onto it for as long as you like. Who knows, we may even manage to get together at some point in 2007. How close are you to where hobbitlove83 lives? I usually go over and see her mid-year, and if you like I could just get it back off you then if you're really not happy with the post. I can get to either Amsterdam or Rotterdam from where HL lives, so are either of those any use?

I would actually love that. Last time when you were in The Netherlands it was during our anual family(-in-law) weekend, and I couldn't get away then, but usually I can get away for a bit during any given set of days and I should be able to come to just about anywhere in The Netherlands; it's such a small country and I happen to live smack in the middle of it, never far from anything :D

It's funny really because I'm following David Hewlett's adventures in making a movie; all the preparations, the making itself, but also the whole thing of finding a distributor, and it's fun that he shares so much of his excitement and anxiety. A lot of fans are getting impatient every time a next step has been announced and then it takes forever to know about the details of the deal. Every time that happens I have think of 'Hard Core Roadshow', because now that was excrutinating. What a lot of setbacks, what an endurance one must have to go that road. Noel's frustration was palpable often, and he was quite merciless in describing everything of the process, some of ugly sides of the business. I can't believe anyone would go through with this! I admire screenwriters, directors, actors and everyone involved in making movies even more; I would have given up long before the end. Especially since it involves so much emotional investment; to see people want to take your baby apart to adjust it to what suits them, having to fight for the things you absolutely want to get done a certain way...

And well, the little sneak peeks we get of the actors, especially the relation between Hugh and Callum, that's really something else... It's fascinating reading about the immediate click between these two, which worked fantastic for the movie. It looks like something special was going on between them. I love that I got everything from the movie that was put into it. I'd expected something completely different from the things I'd read in people's journals, and I thought maybe I wasn't getting something. Are you able to play the clips at YouTube? If so, I recommend watching this video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cujn95X4j2A), which is a HCL vid set to a song by the Dandy Warhols. It has that bittersweet, violent yet moving feeling that the movie gave me. At least, I loved the video.

Then we'll arrange something. It would be great to see you again.

And thanks so much for that link - what a great video! The sight of Billy Tallent licking that knife remains one of the great "ooh" moments of *any* film, before or since.

I feel that indie film directors are an incredible breed - they slave away and then, as you say, so many people want to take their dream and take it apart to re-mould it in a more commercial way, which is just what they don't want. To stick to their guns is quite something, and anybody who manages to make it should be rightly proud of themselves.

But oh, Billy Tallent...

I am a shy but devoted fan of your site and your fic recs as well...is there any chance you could restore them for a few days just so we could save some of the things we should have saved months or years ago? It would be much appreciated, but also completely understood if you feel you're not able to do that. I know fandom, and the LOTRPS fandom, can be a very rocky place. But I did take joy in the fiction and hope to continue to do so.

Thank you for all of your contributions, seriously. Your efforts have meant a lot, to many people.

I wasn't aware people were still using the site! I'm having a very busy weekend right now, but I'll bring the site back up for a while, somewhere during next week. I'll make a post about it in this journal, so I hope you'll notice, since you don't get an email notification for this of course. Could you wave at me when you're done saving what you want to save so I'll know? To give you an idea, I expect the site up next Tuesday with added recs from my journal. I think I'll keep it up for a week or so, unless someone needs it longer. Heh, I feel rather silly typing 'needs it longer', because I really don't consider my site as something that could be needed by anyone, but I don't know how else to say it!

I'm really glad to see you're doing this. I understand your not wanting to keep up the site if maintaining it feels like a chore, but it really is a nice resource and it will be nice to be able to save stuff. I found a lot of my favorite fics through that site when I started reading rps last year.

And definitely no hard feelings! I hope I'll still see you around LJ sometimes.

so you DID delete your site? or not?

i have followed you to The Sentinel and am kind of skating on the edges of SGA because SG-1 is, without question, my primary fandom, these days.

so i know that fandom is what it is, and change happens, and it's not explainable.

i just know that whatever fandom you are in, i will keep you friended, because we've come to far to end it now, but I'm funny that way.

It is the only constant, y'know?

Lj and fandom should always be a happy place and never a chore and you should not have to apologize for letting go the things that bind and drag. Life is too short.

Honestly, I miss your squee about geeky Elijah but maybe there is no true geeky Elijah left y'know to squee about at 25? And I may never 'get' SGA *stares at picture of 'Rodney' perplexed* but I would miss your sharing of your kids and Mr D of E with us, your insights and your struggles and your successes. just you... y'know?
