My personal series-watching update

In alphabetical order:
Due South
Recently season 3 finally came out on dvd over here. I haven't even finished watching season 1 and 2, and even though they're quite enjoyable, I skipped right to season 3, because Callum Keith Rennie as Ray Kowalski; need I say more?! *lusts*
Firefly
My daughter is making me watch Firefly, because she kept on saying she thought I would really, really like it. So now we're watching it together. Why didn't anyone tell me just how awesome that series is?!?!? Oh right, a lot of people did, I just never listened...
Lost
They've started season 3 a couple of weeks ago over here; they've lost me. Pun intended because it's really not worth a better one.
Stargate Atlantis
I skipped the audio commentaries for season 2 that don't have David, Joe and/or Martin Gero in them, and went back to the audio commentaries for season 1 that do. My conclusion: Martin Gero is a god as far as I'm concerned, and I mean one of those nice ones, that actually do good with their divine abilities. My favorite moment is when during 'The Siege, part 2' he interrupts Martin Wood to say "I love that line; 'So long Rodney'" (In Martin Wood's defense; I like how he points out every moment Rodney McKay gets to sit down or lean on something for a second, because he has to keep on going and going like a Duracell Bunny the rest of the time.)
Stargate: SG-1
We (youngest son, daughter and I) are still going slowly, because we absolutely want to watch this series together, and the logistics of that are complicated, but we're not in a hurry either, so we're fine with that. We are now in season 6 and have recently watched 'The Abyss': omgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgomgetc... In short: words fail. Seriously. So much love.
Supernatural
Erm... My daughter likes it, and when she's watching I try to watch with her, but I keep getting the urge to go fold laundry or something. We're now 3/4 into season 1 and I still don't see the attraction. Even Callum Keith Rennie was boring in it.
Torchwood
Finished the season. I'm glad people persuaded me to keep watching, even after episode 6 'Countrycide' freaked me out; it's well worth it. I loved seeing more of Tosh whom I love very much, Jack got more sympathetic but he's still not my type, Gwen is lovely even if I want to smack some sense and sensibility into her sometimes, Rhys has a nice bum and boy do I crush on him because he's such a sweetheart, Owen keeps being creepy and even his love is selfish, and oh Ianto... I'd love to see more of him, even though part of the attraction is that he so quietly goes about his business, doing what needs to be done.
No surprise of course I bawled my eyes out for Gwen and Rhys in the season finale; Eve Myles acted my heart to pieces there.

Date: 2007-03-22 10:44 am (UTC)As for Lost - I haven't watched the episodes they've been airing past the long break yet, but quite a few people say that they're (almost) back to S1 quality, so there's hope.

Date: 2007-03-22 11:00 am (UTC)I need to see more to pick a favorite episode though; I'm just starting out! So far I don't see slash coming either. I know it's out there; is there a favorite pairing in this fandom?
A colleague of mine is torrenting Lost, and she told me yesterday things pick up later on this season, so I guess I'll hang on...

Date: 2007-03-22 03:53 pm (UTC)About Lost, the first half of the season was a whole lot of the Jack Kate and Sawyer Show and bored most of us silly. It's been better lately, with a little more Charlie and Hurley and Desmond, though I wouldn't say up to the quality of the first season. :( They just aren't able to pack the kind of surprises they could in those early episodes. There's also a lot less diversity among the cast than there once was.

Date: 2007-03-22 05:35 pm (UTC)Jack and Kate bore me to tears. And Lost seems to be exclusively about angst these days; nothing thrilling, no sense of humor, nothing to spice things up. Ah well, they broadcast it at a convenient time on a Friday evening when we haven't got anything else to do, so I guess we'll hang on for a bit more! See what happens.

Date: 2007-04-06 01:24 pm (UTC)I haven't delved deeply into Firefly fan fic, but most slash I found seemed to be Mal/Simon or Simon/Jayne, with some Mal/Jayne too.

Date: 2007-03-22 01:05 pm (UTC)And LOST was kind of sucky at the beginning of S3, but it's really picking up now. (In my opinion, anyway.)
HI!!

Date: 2007-03-22 05:37 pm (UTC)Yeah, I'm late to the party with Firefly; everybody was just about to head home ;)

Date: 2007-03-22 01:08 pm (UTC)vshendria has fallen deeply in love with Supernatural, and I watched some of the eps that she brought with her to a party we had last fall, but i couldn't get into it; i don't know why. I guess it's just not really my thing, despite the cars and the great music and the cuteness that is Dean. Or maybe I'm just a serially monogamous fandom whore, I dunno.
And finally, and most importantly, SG-1 ABYSS. Abyss, Abyss, Abyss. I think if you made me choose one ep that's my fav, it's that one. I don't know why, but it is. It just works on ever axis for me. ABYSS.
*squeezes you tight*

Date: 2007-03-22 06:07 pm (UTC)Lost is like an old lover that got boring. Supernatural is my kid's crush I look upon with obliging eyes, but is too young for my taste. Torchwood is like the goodlooking, flashy and popular new guy, that I look upon with suspicion, but has surprisingly gentle and interesting sides. Firefly is too new for me to really say anything about, but I've got my hopes up for a relationship that's both fun and meaningful.

Date: 2007-03-22 02:51 pm (UTC)I want to watch Firefly in the future, I saw Serenity and I am hooked.
Recently I discovered two others TV Series: Battlestar Galactica and Farscape. Oh boy, Ben Browder as John Crichton really got to me, *thud*. I thought he was pretty in SG1 as Cameron Mitchell, but he didn't got to me or such. As John Crichton he plays a Scientist, Astronaut, Outcast, plays compassion, has dark sides, plays mad, hurt, in love,... and has a tendency to self-sacrifice. He is a combination of all my favourite characters in SGA and SG1 and more! Of course Claudia Black as Aeryn Sun is pretty cool, too, and any other characters.
Supernatueral, I saw one episode, but I am not into supernatural stuff, Sci Fi it's for me. Sure the boys are cute, but... shrugs.

Date: 2007-03-22 06:13 pm (UTC)Concerning Supernatural; yeah, the boys are cute, but they're first and foremost boys, and I prefer my guys older these days.

Date: 2007-03-22 07:05 pm (UTC)Now I don't mind those crazy aliens anymore, and the regular animatronics like the Pilot, and Rygel, became real characters to me, lol. I got used to the crazy look of the red tentacle guy Ka D'Argo, as well.

Date: 2007-04-09 08:38 pm (UTC)I've started rereading my old stack of SFX magazines this weekend, because there's so much in there about series I wasn't following yet when I bought the mags, and I noticed to my delight that Claudia did damn well on the 'most sexy' lists, because she's real sexy in my eyes, but not in a conventional way.

Date: 2007-03-22 05:31 pm (UTC)Supernatural has left me feeling meh. Stories are ok and Jenson is good looking but there's no zing!
SGA? sorry -still left me cold. :( SG1 though -adore
and I'm still reading my way through Sentinel fic -there's a lot!!
(no subject)
Date: 2007-03-22 06:31 pm (UTC)There's such a wealth of Sentinel fic!! I don't feel the urge to watch the series anymore, but I still love reading fics, both new and old ones.

Date: 2007-03-22 08:43 pm (UTC)Torchwood: Rhys is my favorite, too, and my god, does he have a nice bum. And the last two eps -- I really cried. Just broke my heart, Gwen did.
Lost really did make a sudden improvement! They'd lost (heh) me completely, but the last three episodes have pulled me right back in.
Have you tried Heroes? I'm completely addicted to it.
(I've already said everything I'm gonna say to you about the Stargates; you know my heart.)
FANDOM! Doncha love it? I'm so, so glad that we still share a few.

Date: 2007-03-24 12:37 pm (UTC)I haven't tried Heroes yet, but it's high on list of series I want to check out!

Date: 2007-03-24 02:30 pm (UTC)My absolute favorites, that I've watched many times, are Out of Gas and Objects in Space. I think Objects in Space is the last episode to be watched (though not to be made -- again, it's in Joss's commentary). But I love those two SO MUCH. Just brilliant story-telling.
Heroes is very very good, and I think the best, most fun way to watch it would be all at once. It's the way Lost should have been: new information all the time, and even better, the new information changes your understanding of the people and events in earlier episodes. Plus: HIRO. And the actor who plays him is just amazing, too.
Not that you have time, but you might give the BSG mini-series a chance. I didn't think I'd like it, but WOW.
Hee! Can't believe I have that much to say about TV shows!

Date: 2007-03-22 10:16 pm (UTC)I gave up on series 3 of Lost as well.
And I'm glad you got to the end of Torchwood and enjoyed it. I thought the penultimate episode was lovely. And Gwen's scene in the final episode when she finds Rhys just makes my blood run cold - the way she screams. Brrrr.

Date: 2007-03-24 01:46 pm (UTC)Oh, Torchwood was certainly worth it! I'm glad I let my flist talk me into watching the rest.

Date: 2007-03-22 10:36 pm (UTC)Re Lost - that one even featured in the second volume of the book "Is it just me or is everything shit". Under the subject "Lost" it says: Lost interest. Indeed not worth any better pun that that.
Re Torchwood - glad you enjoyed the rest of the episodes. I was dying to tell you about that scene with Rhys' bum but did not want to spoil you ;-). Oh and I too would love to look behind Ianto's suits a bit more...and not only to see more of his body!!!

Date: 2007-03-24 01:44 pm (UTC)I'm glad you kept Rhys's bum a surprise; it's clear what kind of butt I'm into.

Date: 2007-03-23 12:45 am (UTC)*opens mouth. closes it again*
Oh well, better late than never, hmmm? ;)
Lost has lost as well. I didn't even bother watching the third season. Too bad, because it used to be so good...
Hee, yeah, I guess you either like SPN, or you don't. It really does have its moments, but some episodes are a bit boring. Even so, I'm still watching, and liking it very much.
The same goes for Torchwood, I guess. It's not everyone's cup of tea, and some eps are better than others, but if it's good it really knocks your socks off. I'm glad you stuck with it. Weren't the last two eps amazing?? And yeah, more Ianto would be lovely. Still wondering what happened with him and Jack and the stopwatch. ;p

Date: 2007-03-23 12:47 am (UTC)That should be: Lost has lost me as well. Blah, I should go to bed!

Date: 2007-03-24 01:06 pm (UTC)I know! I'm very good at getting into fandoms late. At least I'm on top of the SGA squee! Although, there's already talk of 'the fandom is dying' over there... *rolls eyes*)
Oh when my daughter is watching Supernatural, I watch along, it's entertaining enough. But this week I asked her if she wanted to see another episode (she's 3/4 into season 1, and we need to hook up the tv to watch the torrents I've got on the computer, so whenever it's convenient to do that, I ask her if she happens to want to watch a Supernatural episode) and she wanted to watch Firefly instead. She got the dvd set last December, and she can watch them in her own room, but she kept on trying to get me to watch. Well, she succeeded this time!
I bet a lot of fanfic has been inspired by that stopwatch thing!!

Date: 2007-03-24 03:40 am (UTC)I'm still watching LOST, but then I never was very deeply into it to begin with so didn't get terribly disappointed. abc.com has them for watching online, in full screen now, FWIW.
And Torchwood is a little fast-cut and in-your-face, but there are lots of fun things about it I'm enjoying a lot.

Date: 2007-03-24 01:40 pm (UTC)What you say about Torchwood are my thoughts exactly.
